There seems to be a generational element that will drive the series forward. It's a breath of fresh air from some of the other young adult soaps that are on right now, and it adds another layer of intrigue to the overarching plot.

[I was] worried that we would be watching a rehashed show, just switching vampires [Vampire Diaries] for witches. But I need not have worried. I think The Secret Circle has the making of a successful show in its own right.

The bottom line for the premiere episode of a show like this is whether the end leaves us gasping and wanting to learn more. But the final reveal is basically something we've already figured out. The many unanswered questions aren't that interesting.

A not-bad formula gothic that'll rise or fall on the Dekker/Robertson chemistry; I'm betting on the former.

Cassie, Adam, Diana, Faye, Melissa, and shirtless Nick make witchcraft seem so easy with their mantra-like chants of whatever magic they want to make happen. At least the Harry Potter spells had some nifty Latin sounds to them.

Secret Circle, replete with The CW's usual heavy doses of sappy pop music mood-ruiners, eventually gets around to outlining its basic plot point.
